OpenAI’s much-anticipated release of ChatGPT for Android has been announced. The app is set to launch next week and is already available for pre-order on the Google Play Store.
Following the successful debut of the official iOS application in May, OpenAI promised the Android version would follow suit. The app will be free to use and offers the convenient feature of syncing chat history across devices.
ChatGPT quickly became a viral sensation after its initial release in November, amassing a staggering 100 million users within just two months.
The chatbot boasts a wide range of capabilities, including engaging in casual conversations, generating code, composing essays, and summarizing text. With the new Android app, users can now access these functionalities directly from their fingertips, eliminating the need for a web browser.
However, it appears that ChatGPT’s popularity has faced some challenges lately. According to a report from Similarweb, there has been a 9.7% decline in web traffic and a decrease in the number of unique visitors.
Numerous users have voiced complaints, claiming that ChatGPT has become slower and less intelligent in recent times.
In response to these concerns, some users have speculated that OpenAI may have intentionally “dumbed down” ChatGPT. However, OpenAI refutes these claims, asserting that their main goal is to continually improve the intelligence of newer model versions. They clarified this stance via a tweet: “When we release new model versions, our top priority is to make our newer models smarter.”
