Introducing WormGPT a hackers version of ChatGPT Alternative with Unrestricted Capabilities
WormGPT, a new chatbot designed to assist cybercriminals, has emerged as a malicious counterpart to ChatGPT. This nefarious creation, developed by a hacker, is being sold on a popular hacking forum, enabling cybercriminals to exploit its capabilities, according to email security provider SlashNext.
Unlike ChatGPT or Google’s Bard, WormGPT lacks the safeguards that prevent it from responding to malicious requests. Its developer proudly proclaimed that WormGPT offers an alternative to ChatGPT, specifically tailored for illegal activities that can be easily sold online. This ominous chatbot provides a gateway to a range of blackhat activities, empowering individuals to engage in malicious endeavors from the comfort of their own homes.
Screenshots uploaded by WormGPT’s developer reveal the chatbot’s ability to generate Python-based malware and offer guidance on crafting malicious attacks. The developer utilized GPT-J, an older open-source language model from 2021, and trained it on data related to malware creation, resulting in the creation of WormGPT.
SlashNext conducted a test with WormGPT to determine its proficiency in composing a convincing email for a business email compromise (BEC) scheme, a form of phishing attack. The results were disconcerting, as WormGPT produced a highly persuasive and strategically cunning email, demonstrating its potential for sophisticated phishing and BEC attacks. The email lacked any spelling or grammar errors, effectively disguising its malicious intent.
SlashNext warns about the significant threat posed by generative AI technologies like WormGPT, even in the hands of inexperienced cybercriminals. WormGPT removes all ethical boundaries and limitations associated with AI chatbots, underscoring the potential dangers of these technologies.
Fortunately, gaining access to WormGPT comes at a price. The developer offers monthly access to the bot for 60 Euros or an annual subscription for 550 Euros. However, there have been complaints about the program’s performance, with some buyers deeming it “not worth any dime.” Nevertheless, WormGPT serves as a foreboding reminder of how generative AI programs can fuel cybercrime as they continue to evolve and mature.
